About
I was born and raised in the Yukon, but to a German family so grew up enjoying wine on my grandmother’s terrace in Baden, purchased from the local vintner who made the 2€ bottles from the surrounding vineyards and sold them casually from his garage. Those summers shaped my connection to wine as a conduit of history, of culture, and of memory. I went on to study history and foreign languages at Stanford and McGill, in some ways a reflection of that early-sown desire to understand the world, before building a career in strategy and pursuing an MBA. Today, as COO at InVintory, I bring together my business acumen and my love of wine. InVintory is a Toronto-based wine collecting platform, whose vision is to bring your world of wine to life, enabling enthusiasts and collectors alike to learn about wine, manage their collections, and engage with others. With technology and data, we are enhancing the experience of wine, using modern tools to fortify the traditions of this storied industry.

The way you position and identify your brand has a huge impact on the way you're perceived, from the business opportunities you’re offered to the type of customer who purchases your products or services. Developing this brand identity often begins by asking a series of introspective questions: What does your company stand for? What issues do you care about? What gap in the market do you fill? These are important questions to answer and reevaluate often as a business owner, but they're far from the only ways to conceptualize your brand. Below, 11 Rolling Stone Culture Council members offer their best advice for finding your brand's identity and explain why each step is so important.
